A gingivectomy—sometimes called pocket reduction surgery—removes diseased or overgrown gum tissue, reducing the depth of periodontal pockets where bacteria can thrive. Here’s what you can expect during treatment:

• A local anesthetic will be administered to keep you comfortable.

• The laser is used to gently remove infected or inflamed gum tissue and recontour the gums.

• Once the tissue is reshaped, the laser also stimulates healing through a process known as photobiostimulation, which promotes faster recovery.

Following the procedure, you may notice some temporary sensitivity in your teeth and gums. Within a few weeks, most patients experience healthier gum tissue, shallower periodontal pockets, and an overall improvement in oral health.
